Systematic English Language Development (SELD) is provided to all students who speak another language other than English at home and are not yet fluent in English. Students receive instruction daily for 20-30 minutes based on their fluency levels in English - with a focus on speaking, then reading and writing skills. At Carver, our Project Resource Teacher Mrs. Miranda and our Community Assistant, Mrs. Wagar, provide support for teachers and for students learning English. Students also receive English instruction and support in their classrooms.
This year Carver students have access to Lexia and Achieve 3000 - online support programs that develop reading and writing skills aligned to the Common Core Standards. Parents have access to these programs at home too, and should check with their child's teacher to get the passwords needed.
Homework assistance is provided daily for those students enrolled in the Prime Time program.
